Indigent Clients
As of 14th of March 2007, the Second Chance Center New Mexico has 0 available beds for indigent defendants.
Private Pay Clients
As of 14th of March 2007, the Second Chance Center New Mexico has 100 available beds for private pay clients.
Additional Information
1. We have private donors who will do matching funds with the counties for 16 new students. If the County will pay 37.50, the private donor will pay the balance for their 75.00 daily rate. First come, first served.
2. In the next fiscal year we can take another 49 if the County will pay 50 per day. This is a 1/3 match with funds we will be getting from the State. The State will pay 25 and the County 50.
3. Next fiscal year (starting July 1) SCC can take probation and parole violators, whom the State will reimburse the County at a rate of 75 per day. This is an indefinite number being paid out of the reimbursement fund approved in this year's legislative session.
4. For those who are not indigent, we can take pay to stay clients at a rate of $100 per day. If they pay for the entire six months up front, then they pay $85.
Eligibility
The SCC receives its residents from judicial referrals. The facility is a secure, long-term substance abuse rehabilitation program for persons who are either incarcerated or facing incarceration. Eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Must be male;
- Must exhibit a chronic substance abuse problem;
- Must be facing, or have remaining on his sentence at least six (6) months, preferably one year;
- Must not have any serious medical issues, be under psychiatric care or on psychotropic medications;
- Must not be facing charges involving a serious violent offense;
- Must not be a sex offender.
If a person meets the above criteria, an application should be submitted to the SCC. An interview may follow.
Programming
The SCC program is a long-term, social rehabilitation model delivered in a secure, therapeutic enviroment designed to focus the offender on rehabilitation. The program utilizes a cognitive-behavioral therapy approach, emphasizing positive change through the development of pro-social attitudes such as:
- self control
- critical reasoning
- development of moral reasoning skills
- development of life skills
- self-esteem
- problem solving
- coping resources
